While doing a well check on a five year old boy a few years ago, I explained to him that he needed shots so that he could stay healthy and go to kindergarten. He got a really thoughtful look on his face and then said,
This is Brody my sweet little 5 year old patient. I just had to grab a picture of him looking so cute in his North Face Jacket. Looks like he’s ready for winter sports!
I don’t really want to go to kindergarten.”
This is my beautiful patient Serena. I walked into her exam room ready to perform her 2 month well check and froze in my tracks. There she was, sleeping peacefully on the exam table. I was overwhelmed by how beautiful and trusting she was. I just sat and watched her sleep as I talked with her mom.
This scene will be captured in my memory forever and reminds me of all my patients and how grateful I am to care for each and everyone of them.
So thank you to all for blessing me with caring for you family. Have a wonderful holiday season, whatever you celebrate, and Merry Christmas and thank you!
Love, Dr. P

A little boy was being seen at the office for infected bug bites on his arm. I asked him what had bitten him and he said,
These are my cutie little patients, Katelyn and Crew, all ready for
Fifties Day at school!

Here are my crazy boys (a few years ago). I will never forget the night when I was trying to get them off to bed. We had been to a friend’s wedding and as a treat for their good behavior at the wedding, I gave them frozen yogurt with chocolate syrup. They were so wound up they just wouldn’t stop talking, laughing, and running around. I was exhausted and getting really mad. Finally in my frustration I yelled in my most serious voice,
“Go to your room and put on your pianos!!"
(I meant pajamas)
The boys stopped dead in their tracks, looked at me to see how mad I was, and then busted-up laughing.
I just shook my head and started laughing too.
Some days there is no winning!

On a particularly busy day at the office, I unfortunately was running behind. I walked into the room and apologized to the mom and her kids for the wait time.
“Oh, Dr. Prentice, we never mind waiting to see you, but if you are going to leave a mom closed in a small room with two little kids the least you could do is give her a glass of wine.”

This is London, my little cutie patient. She brightened my day last
week when I walked into her exam room and saw her munching on an apple and dancing
(exercise and eating-
two of my favorite things!)

I truly believe that children are a gift from God, and that each one is unique. I feel blessed to be doing what I do and it brings me joy to see my kiddos at the office everyday!
This is Emily... she's 1 1/2 years old and brings a smile to my face when I see her.

Savor the small things... they become such a large part of your heart and mind...
This is my favorite card that I got from my boys and I’ve hung on to it for years! The front of the card says,
“Mom, what would we ever do without you ….”
It's one moment that I will remember forever!
I love you Zack and Jake!
Happy Mother's Day Everyone!

Heard in the hallways of Great Destinations Pediatrics:
The mother of three children under 5 years old was walking down the hallway when I heard her say,
“You know that baby that was annoying you at the restaurant? You’re doing that to me now!”
It was one of those moments in the day that I really needed a good laugh... and there it was!

Lucas, aka chick magnet!
Gotta love those dimples!
While I was checking a cute little 5 year old boy I said to his mother, “Look at those dimples! He’s going to be a chick magnet.”
The little boy replied,
“It’s the adult girls that notice. I’m not good with girls my age.”
Now you see why I smile all day long!!

Carter and Jack after their check-ups. They were very sad after they got their shots and then a hug and a couple cutie oranges later they were laughing and happy.
I wish I could fix everything with
a hug and a cutie orange!

This is my cutie little 15 month old patient Riley. He grabbed those sunglasses out of mom’s bag and started strutting around during his well check-up.
Reminds me of that song,
“I’m too sexy for my shirt ....”
I guess that’s why he’s not wearing one.

I was nursing Zack while pushing Jacob my 2 ½ year old in a swing. Jacob looked at me and said:
"Momma, baby bite you!"
"No honey, he’s not biting me, he’s drinking milk."
Jacob then said,
"is it chocolate milk?"
Oh boy! Kids are so funny!

During a check-up with my 3 ½ year old patient Gregory, I asked him to take a deep breath. He looked at me very seriously and said,
"When I get a little mad I take a deep breath and count to four."
Then he started giggling. He also told me that his brother taught him a new word, "weird."
More giggles and then he said,
"I like to say strange."
Kids are so entertaining! Yet another reason I love my job.

Levi’s mom called to tell me he was unable to take his medicine. I suggested she put it in chocolate syrup or frosting.
After Levi took his medicine with ease, he told his mother,
"Dr. Prentice is a very, very smart lady."
His brother Gage replied in a very matter of fact voice,
"She just knows what you like."
I love how brutally honest kids are!!

Look at these two cuties I got to see this week! Gabriella and Sophia had
fun at their check-ups.
Things About Kids
1. Kids say what they feel
2. They love themselves
3. They think they can do anything
4. They are OK with mistakes
5. They ask why, are wondrous, and curious
6. They aren’t afraid to express themselves
7. They have BIG dreams
I think we should be more like kids!

When her mother asked Emma what she was doing, 3 ½ year old Emma replied:
"I’m choicing my breakfast options."
I love it when kids make up their own words. Makes sense to me!

While I was checking a cute, little 3 year-old girl, my nurse asked me to step out of the exam room and take a call from an ER doctor.
When I came back into the room, the mom laughingly told me that her daughter confided to her while I was gone...
"Mom, she isn’t a good doctor,
she didn’t make me feel any better."
This is my cutie little 3 year-old patient, Tava. She is ready for her well check. She got all dressed up in her Doc McStuffins outfit for me. This is why I smile all day!

One day the Sunday school teacher was explaining to the children about Jesus, and how we need to give
him our hearts.
Five-year-old Zack said,
"That’s crazy! What’s he need my heart for, he already has one!"
You got to love how literal kids are!

“Train up a child in the way they should go, and when they are old they shall not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6
This has always been one of my favorite bible verses. It gives me comfort to know that if I show my kids the way, the rest is up to them!
Obviously, this verse is talking about God, but one can apply the same principles to healthy eating and living. If we teach our children how to eat healthy, take them shopping with us, show them how to pick out food and how to prepare it, we have just planted seeds and shown them the way to a healthy life.
Is it quicker and easier for us to just put our kids in front of a cartoon and cook dinner ourselves? Absolutely! Have I done that before? Of course. But when you have the energy, please “train up” your kids. Enjoy the pictures from my Open House cooking demonstration. Yes, I gave kids knives!
